Top Reasons for not getting a Response when you apply to a job...
Top Reason # 1: You have applied to a Job which is already filled. In this economy, jobs get filled in hours. Apply only to latest Jobs.
Set up RSS Feeds and get latest jobs, if you do not like to clog your mail box, you may check this cool site.
Hotrecruiter.com > Hot Feeds on home page - scroll down (Tech Jobs Only - You may request webmaster to add other jobs)
The Hot Feeds are latest jobs grabbed from various sites and update every 5 minutes. When you browse a job from Hot Feeds, check the DATE & TIME the job was actually posted on the original Job Site. The time is normally not shown on original site, site shows Server Time from the original site.
Applying to jobs posted only in the last 3-4 Hours makes sense. Most jobs get filled very quickly and Recruiters do not delete jobs even if they are filled. The smart webmaster grabs feeds based on your keywords if you request from support. This site is free and registration is not required to browse feeds.
Top Reason # 2: You have not read the Job requirement and you blindly sent your resume.
You have sent a resume to a job different from your skills. You are wasting everyone's time, not just yours...
Read the job carefully. The job has listed some important skills you do not have or you did not show on your resume. A Recruiter can not imagine your experience and/or skills.
Simple Example The job requests "Great Skills with MS Word" and your resume lists "Experience with MS Office" - Recruiters may not understand this or resume failed in keyword search.
Top reason # 3: Keyword search failure on Resume
Recruiters often do a keyword search when they receive multiple resumes to filter and your resume may have failed in a keyowrd search.
Make a resume with RICH Keywords.
Example A job of "Java Developer" needs experience with "SPRING". Recruiters will do a keyword search to see if the word "SPRING" appeared 3-4 Times in entire resume looking in Resume summary, skills and project description/environment. (This is Dumbest thing # 1).
Recruiters have no time to call and discuss with 1000 Applicants.
Top Reason # 4: The job particulary requested locals only.
Hey, when a job insists on LOCALY ONLY. Why are you wasting time, Recruiters will ignore your resume anyways.
Top Reason # 5: You have applied to a Job which was posted as a part of the Green Card Process requirement under Immigration Regulations.
You have applied to a job from a News Paper or Internet which was flashed to comply with the USDOL Regulations for a Green Card Process. Companies are required to to advertise and Recruit US Workers if they plan to Sponsor an Alien.(This is Dumbest thing # 2)
Applying to these Ads may not make sense, if companies find a qualified US worker, they may simply close the job order by not sponsoring the Alien.
How to identfy these GREEN CARD Ads which turn you BLUE: Most of these ads normally talk more about Education, Major Field of Study, Experience, Heavy Travel Requirement and Acceptance of Foreign Equivalent education.
Example:
Job Description: Abnormal and multiple skills (Java Developer with Oracle DBA skills)
Education: BS degree with 5 years of Experience or MS Degree with 2 Years of Experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Any Engineering (And sometimes no relation - Finance or Commerce) and Foreign Equivalent Accepted. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education and experience.
Employer will accept a 3 year BS degree in lieu of a 4 year BS degree (This is a job for Green Card Process for sure)
Number of positions: 5 (what??)
Travel: Extensive Travel (why??)
Employer Location: NYC
Job Location: CA (How??)
